Owen River Lodge, New Zealand 2015 or 2016
WHAT’S A HOSTED TRIP?Introducing Owen River Lodge
Owen River Lodge is the manifestation of my good mate, Felix Borenstein’s passion for catching trout on fly. After extensive fishing throughout New Zealand, he built the Lodge in the picturesque countryside of the Murchison/Nelson Lakes region of the South Island, believing he’d found the best sighted brown trout fishery in the world.
This special location affords us an enormous choice and variety of rivers, streams and lakes to fish, with over 25 rivers and streams accessible within a 90 minute drive!
If this isn’t enough, the Lodge’s position right on the boundary of Kahurangi National Park means you can quickly and easily chopper into another dozen or so stunning wilderness streams.
Experienced Local Guides
Owen River Lodge has developed one of New Zealand’s most experienced guiding teams, comprised totally of Kiwis who all live locally and are members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association. With their assistance, a day on the river is full of action, excitement and generally a lot of laughter!
The Lodge That Felix Built
It was Felix’ desire to create a luxurious fishing lodge that delivered a relaxed, understated and highly professional level of service in stylish surrounds, serving wonderful food to anglers and non-anglers alike. The elegantly-designed guest accommodation cottage suites are full of sunlight and offer amazing views of the river, the Owen Ranges and Kahurangi National Park. This Lodge easily meets the “Starling Requirement” of comfort, being as excellent as the fishing experience.
The Fishery
Owen River Lodge’s premium location gives us access to numerous blue ribbon streams and rivers, with over 30 rivers and streams accessible by road (most within 1 hours drive).
The following rivers are those most likely to feature in our trip (without using a helicopter): Baton, Branch, Buller, D’Urville, Gowan, Goulter, Grey, Inangahua, Leatham, Mangles, Matiri, Matakitaki, Maruia, Motueka, Motupiko, Owen, Riwaka, Rolling, Sabine, Travers, Wangapeka, Waimea, Woolley and Wairau.
Additionally, we could helicopter into the following rivers (additional pricing would need to be discussed): Branch (upper), Crow, Deepdale, Goulter (Upper), Johnson, Karamea, Leslie, Venus, Roaring Lion and Mohikinui.
Sounds like my kind of trip. Tell me more...

This will be a great trip…. I live on the banks of the Inangahua River, an hour from where your team will be staying.
Why do I live here? Because it is the best, most accessible, brown trout fishery in NZ. It is rare to see another angler.
Enjoy!!!
Fred
Thanks Fred! Great part of the world.
